What is Six Sigma?

Six Sigma is business standard of performance developed in 1986 by Bill Smith of Motorola and inspired by the 6 preceding decades of innovation in the fields of quality control, TQM, and Zero Defect standards. The process offered by Six Sigma can be best described with DMAIC (Define - Measure - Analyze - Improve - Control) and is usually implemented by "Champions" they are business leaders sponsoring projects by Six Sigma, and are trained in the essential methodology of Six Sigma. Focusing only on projects that could yield substantial results, for example Six Sigma saved GE $2 Billion in 1999.
